10 Best Plus Size Fashion Trends for Fall 2013

“Fall fashion trends? I’m Plus Size and it’s a million degrees outside!”

It may be midsummer now, but one look at department store windows and you’ll have to agree: fall is on its way. Even Mother Nature agrees, as it’s a chilly 65 degrees here in New York City today!

So without any further ado, let’s take a walk through the biggest fashion trends for plus size fashionistas this Fall 2013 season!

Pssst: if you want to get a jump on the crowds and stock up before the good stuff is all gone, we can help with that. All of the items below are in stock and ready to ship to you with just a few clicks.

1. Bordeaux

Wine, burgundy, oxblood, whatever you want to call it, this rich, royal, deep red hue is everywhere this fall. Universally flattering, and surprisingly versatile, we personally love this color on pants. Create a punky and funky look with a tough black leather biker jacket, or go soft and romantic with an ivory lace blouse. The possibilities are endless!

If you aren’t quite sure about wearing bold color on your entire bottom half, try out this adorable little clutch for a pop of burgundy!

2. Boots & Booties

Boots are a perennial fall favorite, but here’s a special tip for our Plus Size ladies: chunky, heavier footwear like boots helps balance the booty! You’ll look more proportional and sleeker when your feet are clad in a stronger, heavier shoe as opposed to delicate strappy sandals. Extra bonus: these styles are available in wide widths and sizes up to 11.

3. Khaki Chic

Neutrals are making a comeback in a big way this fall fashion season. Tones of tan, khaki and olive are big news, and here are three on-trend choices that fit the bill perfectly!

This olive dress has a great fall look, but it’s made of cotton to keep you from overheating. It’s a universally flattering style, with a slight A-line skirt, and can be worn belted or loose.

A vest can be the perfect accent to an otherwise boring outfit. Toss on this gorgeous khaki linen vest, cinch up the drawstring, and elevate jeans and a basic tee to a whole new level.

This skirt is really unique, with a “two in one” feature. Because it’s a medium weight linen, it can work for several seasons–as with most natural fabrics, linen keeps you cool in the summer and warmer in the fall. The midi length A-line is perfect for creating a smooth look, but tie up the internal ties and it becomes a fashion-forward balloon skirt that’s the perfect wardrobe pick-me-up!

4. Leather accents

A well placed touch of leather brings high-fashion style to even the most basic wardrobe staples like a swingy cardigan or little black dress.

We know this particular LBD is a big splurge, but we think of it as an investment piece that’s right on trend for Fall ’13 yet classic enough to carry you to numerous events for years to come! Dressed down with tights, boots and a denim jacket, or dressed all the way up with heels and bling, you’ll look amazing no matter what the occasion.

Trade in that hoodie for a polished cardigan-jacket this fall. Every woman’s closet needs the perfect topper, and this stunning beauty adds a major touch of class via the perforated leather sleeves.  The body of the cardigan is a cuddly blanket-type wool, accented with elegantly stitched perforated leather sleeves and trim. Wear this beauty with everything from jeans to a cocktail dress–it’s that versatile!

If you’re looking to make a (much) smaller investment, how about adding a touch of leather via our double wrap-around bracelet? The studs keep it solidly on trend, and it’s a fun way to layer in a bit of leather without making a big commitment.

5. Denim

OK, OK, I know it might seem a little silly to say that denim is a “trend” since as we all know, jeans have been around since the 1800s. Nevertheless, this fall, we’ll see denim all over the runways, used in some very creative ways. Whether or not you feel like being “trendy”, we know you can always use a great pair of jeans (or denim skirt), so here are our personal favorites for the Plus Size body!

Mynt 1792 Denim Mini Skirt: this little beauty has a ton of great details, including a wide waistband, slit front pockets for a clean look, and square flap back pockets. Perfect for every season!

What could be more versatile than the perfect fitting pair of trouser jeans? Answer: nothing! These classic beauties from Mynt 1792 are made to perfectly hug and flatter the curves of the Plus Size woman. Wear them with everything!

For a more casual look, how about a pair of comfy, relaxed boyfriend jeans? Pairs well with everything from flip flops or flats in summer, to boots or classic pumps in fall. This is the perfect everyday jean! Available in sizes 14-24.

6. Heavy Metal

This fall season calls for big bold jewelry, especially statement necklaces. Instead of the colorful enamels that have been so popular throughout spring and summer, we’re seeing a move toward more solid-metallic looks. Here are our two favorite chunky “heavy metal” statement necklaces to flatter and balance the Plus Size figure. Gold is the hot metal for fall, but if you prefer cooler tones there are plenty of great choices in silver for you as well.

7. Lace

Lace has been a popular trend since this spring, and it continues into fall without losing any of its romantic, charming appeal.  There are multiple lacy options, including a full dress made of lace (sexy!), a flirty skater skirt, and even a bandeau top with a peplum. Each of these pieces was chosen for its versatility and ability to flatter the curvy woman.

This dress is so beautifully feminine, but the lined black allover lace makes it sexy too. The elegant scalloped edge gives it a touch of couture class, while the pullover design means it’s as easy to wear as your favorite t-shirt. Dressed up or down, this is one lacy basic you’ll want to have in your wardrobe for sure.

8. Emerald Green Accents

This rich, gorgeous and regal shade is the Pantone Color of the Year for 2013, and one look at these glorious baubles in the color of money tells us why! Emerald green (and its sister shades) sparks up even a basic little black dress and makes it something really special.  For a truly on-trend look, mix your emerald hued accents with other jewel tones like burgundy (see above!) or cobalt.

9. Graphic Print Tops

There’s something so fresh and exciting about the new crop of graphic print tops! They feature hyper-realistic digital prints that are bold, colorful and make a strong statement. We can’t get enough of them!

This one, called “Black Diamonds” is simply fantastic. Hyper-realistic graphic photos of real diamonds scattered on a black background–a girl’s best friend for sure!

For a more abstract look, we love the look of this green and white graphic print from Vince Camuto. Pairs perfectly with white jeans for summer, then a black pencil skirt and ankle booties for fall.

And how about two trends in one? This silky shell ties in the popular bordeaux color with the graphic print trend, for a modern yet classic look that’s ultra-versatile.

Supermodel Tip from Emme:  If you want to make this print really pop, pair it with bright yellow bottoms!

10. Pencil Skirts

The sleek, classic pencil skirt is the total opposite of this summer’s biggest trend: the flowing maxi. Switch things up for fall and go for a tailored silhouette that’s perfect with heels or flats, day or night, any occasion!

Here are some of our favorite pencil skirt looks for Plus Size fashionistas:

To end this post with a bang, here’s a skirt that’s not exactly a pencil skirt, but definitely one you need to see!  Bright purple color, flattering draped shape, and a tulip hem. What could be more fabulous!
